What Is CBD Oil?
CBD is short for Cannabidiol and is the second most abundant constituent in Hemp. CBD is different from THC as it has no psychoactive effects, meaning it does not get you high. CBD is one of 144 known chemical substances known as cannabinoids, which are all found in the cannabis plant. CBD is the second most abundant compound in hemp, typically representing up to 40% of its extracts.
The Cannabis plant exudes cannabinoids and terpenes onto its leaves and flowers in response to sunlight and pests. It is understood that humans have cultivated and consumed hemp food products for thousands of years, carrying their cannabis seeds with them over great distances.
The human Endo-Cannabinoid System (ECS) was discovered in 1992 and subsequent research has revealed a network of cell receptors designed to interact with cannabinoid molecules. Endocannabinoids are internal cannabinoid molecules that our bodies are supposed to produce, to trigger ECS receptors.
It is thought that certain environmental factors may inhibit the production of our internal cannabinoid molecules. While the mechanisms are not well understood, CBD is thought to interact with a range of cell receptors, causing subsequent physiological responses. Learn more…
